I just wanted to find out what are ok temps for a high end laptop like mine. at the moment with the Stable OC i am getting to 85 when running benchmarks and stability tests.I dint change the volts just the clock and Temp went up by 5 not that much. I just wanted to know if that is still fine temps ? the GPU idles at about 40. and i am not using a Laptop cooler pad thing yet still need to get a nice one :P. I tryed to google and just got dumb answerers that people think they know what they are saying on lie low end laptop GPU's.

Laptops will get hot, their coolers are quite pathetic all the time so that they can stay small, its a shame but at the moment it doesnt seem like there will be a solution to that problem very soon.

This. laptops will always be hot no matter what. They are heaters and in some cases actually made burns on laps. There isn't much you can do about it.

I had an old dell insprion laptop, due to intel screwing up the laptops were prone to catching fire, why you ask well because when i measured the temps it read 105oc while i was playing age of war which is a flash game.

I tried to cook with my OLD laptop before I blew it up. Didn't manage to cook anything but I did however reheat an old baked potato!

Potatos like to explode. ANYWAYS Laptop liquid cooling? Never gonna happen in a consumer level.

100C is the max GPU will handle. At which point the GPU will crash the driver, or if that fails, to cool off, it will shutdown itself. (your computer will freeze)

nope i have run' ed my 7870 on 120 c never crashed

+ my brother dell xps gpu runs on 99 c while playing games never crashed or had bsod

I have never heard of a stock laptop with a water cooler. Link me to one? The only gaming laptop I would consider buying is the Asus G750. That thing has a beastly cooler (for a laptop), but even with that you'd get up to 80 degrees on both CPU and GPU under unrealistic synthetic load.

That is because the fail safe system has been removed by the OEM. Meaning you are actually breaking the processor as we speak.

The OEM probably figured that you'll change your laptop before it breaks (3 years), assuming you casually play games.

It's cheaper to do this, then invest in cooling engineering, which you get from a business and workstation class laptop.

For example, my laptop with Nvidia Quadro GPU, the fan rarely spins during usage, unless I play a game, and will only reach 80C at most. It's an amazing overclocking too. The GPU has it's fail safe system in place (tested from OC).

The bottom, is never hot, just warm at worst (if I don't overclock the GPU and play a game). The reason for this, is that it uses a large heatpipe to off the GPU and CPU, but also have a more and longer fins on the heatsink to help cool it off.

Moreover it uses a good fan with good CFL/sound/Pressure ratio, and uses the metal base of the system as a larger heatsink spreader.
