So I am looking to get myself a nice set of headphones for $100 or less. Note that I am looking for headphones, not a headset. I plan on getting the modmic 4.0 to attach them them. TBH I don't know where to start or what to look at. I have looked all over and just seem more confused about what I want to get than I did in the first place.

I am a bass junkie, nice bass matters most to me. However that isn't to say that that I don't want good audio all the way across. Something I am also on the fence about is open versus closed. My computer setup is in the family office so my wife does a lot of work in there, which is why I generally go with closed so she doesn't have to worry about making to much noise. However something I have heard is that open has better sound stages, and don't get as muddy as closed which makes for an over all better sound experience.

Not really a basshead can, though. Nor is the SHP9500.

Budget, the Takstar Pro 80 kind of works as a mini Beats killer, without the overall shitty gen 1 audio quality. V-Moda M80 would be an option if you can stretch funds and have smallish ears. Some JVC headphones are quite bassy - e.g. HA-SZ1000-E.

Agreed. However, they're still among the best sounding open-back headphones for $100, if not the very best.

Yeah, I have the Philips SHP 9500 and the bass is really good, but also really quiet. It something you'll have to get used to. But the Philips are so comfy and sound so good that it's hard to recommend anything else.

For bass, you'll have to get something like a Superlux HD 681. The bass on these cans is phenomenal. But the highs could kill you. There is an EVO edition with tamed highs but they sound muffled. The ergonomics are bad as well.
