I have an Intel Core i7 4770 CPU and my friend has a 4790 or a 4970. We both did a benchmark test and I got a significantly lower performance than him. Using CPU-z, I got a 332 on the single thread performance and a 4920 for multi-thread performance. What does it mean by having a low performance on the single thread?

Games are usually single threaded. So worse performance in games. That's comparing the single core performance between the 4770 to the 4790

Close all your applications in the background. That has a huge impact on tests like this. When I have stuff running and do Cinebench, I would get around significantly lower scores than if I literally shut everything down.

I'm not privy to their test, but I would guess all this really means is they run the same exact test, just one run they use one core and another they use all cores. So having a score that far apart for the basically the same thing being run would seem normal. However I'm curious as to what "significantly lower" is.
