1080 vs 1070

So witch one should i get some say 1080 is overkil, some say there are 1070 that have a power of 1080

So should i get 1080 or is there no point ? And what brand ?

Forgot to say will be gaming in 1080 and maybe in 4 k and doing some video editing 

Games i will play are Battlefield series ARMA, squad, Escape From Takarov and COD IW  (JK)

You would be better off going for 1440. For 1440p 60hz get a 1070 or if you can afford 1440p 144hz get a 1080

ok let me make a chart: in all games setting will be maxed

AAA and 4k: sli gtx 1080 (single one if you wanna run dial down a bit in some games)

AAA and 2k 144hz: gtx 1080

AAA and 2k: GTX 1070

Indie and 4K: gtx 1070

4K is still hard to run for games even with the 1080. Get a 1440p one in the future.

Its very likley that i will go with 1080 but what version to choose 

 maybe   Inno3D GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Twin X2 Video Card  my budget for video card is some 600 to 7000€

keep in mind, by the time you get a 4k monitor, (if its in the near future as on a year or two) there will be better GPUs out. that's what got me to get a 1070 rather than a 1080 for my 1440p (which I already had)... also no real difference in render times for adobe premiere

you've got to go search charts for your games to see differences in fps and such what im doing for the build im going with is a I7 6700k with msi gtx 1070 gaming X and the asus 1440p 144hz 1ms rt monitor got to get what suits your needs

I bought a 1070, then exchanged it for the 1080 for MOAR POWER!!!!  #noragrets

 

Seriously though, don't get either if you're gaming at 1080p -- based on most benchmarks I've seen, your games will all be CPU bound.  Both are great for 1440p. and the 1080 can handle itself with older titles at 4K.  

 

I personally decided to exchange for the 1080 because I really wanted to play the Witcher 3 at ultra and 60fps and the 1070 just wasn't cutting it.

if you don't have a 1440p panel now and just playing 1080p, just get the 1070, save some cash towards a monitor. 2-3 years later when you upgrade your gpu you may have the 1440p or would have enough money for a 4k monitor then as well... by then GPUs will perform better for 4k anyhow.

What about VR? 1070 is fine for VR. Do you have a VR set?

As of now i dont have a monitor or VR i will buy them once i bulid my pc 

But what are the best versions of 1070 and 1080

1. 1070+ for 1080p is waste of money.

2. 4k is waste of Ressources.

 

If Money doesnt matter:

Get a IPS 1440p Display with Gsync and a gtx1080.

Go with a 1440p with 144+ HZ and Gsync.

 

IPS if you can afford it, or even a TN one is fine (PG278Q).

 

I wouldnt go with 1080p now then 4k later, as you can get most of the benefits of 4k gaming usind DSR, plus a higher refresh rate.
