This was my first build about 2-3 years ago. I was never that pleased with it as my budget was slim. I didn't really know what I was doing and found the whole process confusing to be honest. (I returned 4 processors until I got one that fit my motherboard).

This is supposed to be a gaming rig. (I crammed in 32GB ram because I thought POWWWERRR!!). So here it is..

These are all the parts I can remember. Obviously there's a power supply etc.. I was wondering how much did I mess this build up? Should I add to it to improve it or start again with a £1500 (ish) budget.

Not half bad, really, you don't NEED an upgrade. I'd hold out until AMD releases Vega since you don't NEED an upgrade right away.

Get 16 gb of ram, more ram does not mean more performance, at least in gaming.

I don't understand. Why would I take my 32GB ram out and buy 16GB?

I was thinking about the GTX 1080

is my processor not a bit weak? I also do 3ds Max rendering and Revit work when not gaming.

If you're playing on 1080p, I don't see a need for an upgrade except for maybe a 240gb ssd if you don't already have one.

It's not very messed up, assuming you actually only have 4 sticks of RAM. :)

32Gigs of RAM is overkill, but it doesn't hurt.

You could get a newer graphics card, but if you are playing at 1920x1080, the R9 290 is fine. A GTX-1080 would be overkill for 1080p.

Like the guy above, I would suggest you get an SSD for the OS and games, if you don't already have one.

Depending upon what games you play, you could improve things by updating the CPU to a newer Skylake unit. That would involve getting a new motherboard and DDR4 RAM though, which is practically a new build.

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.

On the build you sent us in the OP, you have 6 sticks of RAM whereas your motherboard only has 4 slots. Not sure if you meant to change this later but there you go.

Some compatibility issues from PCPartPicker:

- Fractal Design Define R3 Black Pearl ATX Mid Tower Case has front panel USB 3.0 ports, but the Asus P8H67-M PRO Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard does not have onboard USB 3.0 headers.
- Some Intel H67 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Ivy Bridge CPUs.

I'd also add a CPU cooler to cool things down better, especially if you are trying to overclock.
