SSD help please

Hello all,

 

I have recently bought a Samsung EVO 850 250GB SSD. I did some research and saw that the best way to get your OS onto the SSD is to do a fresh install. So I removed my HDD and installed Windows onto my SSD. When I then plug my HDD back in I can access all the files still.

 

However, do I really need to then re-install everything, such graphics cards drivers etc, as none of it automatically works. It is literally like having a brand new computer, with my files just passively sat on a hard drive.

Yes, if you re-install the OS with a fresh install, then you'll need to re-install "everything".   Depending on your hardware, Windows Update may be of significant assistance.

i put my old HDD and my new SSD into an external dock

and just copy paste everything from the old HDD into the new SSD

and everything is in-tact and works the same * but much faster obv

Is it possible to copy and paste windows from HDD to SSD?

 

Or does it have to be properly installed?

You'll lose the MFT and MBR.
