i have a 1u server for my NAS and basically we all know how loud them little 40mm fans are ( I will be buyign fractal design 40mm fans to replace it for better noice) but until then is there any issue with remove the fans all together i have changed them to 5v buy switching cables but still loud?

how hot will it get the CPU is passively cooled anyway will it get so hot it will kill it? or will it just be hot but usable until i get the new fans?

Case:- 4U Rack Mount Case | Cooler:- Antec Kuhler H600 | CPU:- Intel i5 4690K @ 4.50GHz GPU:- Zotac GeForce GTX 970 4GB AMP! Omega Core Edition @ 1449MHz | Motherboard:- MSI Z97S SLI Krait | PSU:- XFX XTR 650W Gold | RAM:- HyperX DDR3 1866MHz 4GB White (x2) Black (x2) | Storage:- Kingston V300 120GB | Storage 2:- Seagate FireCuda 1TB | Build Log |

the FD40mm fans arent all too amazing, and honestly none of them seem to be :/

but the reason the fans are so loud, is because they need to be in order to get enough air trough the chassis.

ye I'm aware of that but FD ones are going to be quieter over the industrial ones in the server, if it means change the cooler out to a active cooled 1u heat sink then thats what ill have to do,

i think im going to take fans out(well unplug for now run some test see temps and see it it stays inside the max temps because I'm happy with it being hotter in exchange for silence as silence is bliss! ha

Well considering that the heatsinks in server chassis' are designed to be cooled by the case fans so they won't be able to stand up to passive cooling unless they're extremely low power CPUs.

As @manikyath stated the fans are loud because they have to be in order to move the volume of air required to cool the entire system as that is all the cooling servers have normally.

I'd honestly suggest transitioning you NAS to a normal case so you can use a more "traditional" cooling solution.

i have a full server rack in my house hosting ever bit of tech from my gaming PC to my custom router my rack is actively cooled buy fan intakes and fan outtakes

again i understand how server fans work! it is a low power xeon in the server

again if temps are too high after i installed FD fans i will buy a actively cooled 1u CPU cooler i have found

I guess I'm just confused then because you should know how loud server fans are?

How would we know what temps your NAS would get to with your fans removed considering that you never even specified what CPU you're using?

I'm going to have to say that you're most likely going to need to buy the actively cooled cooler however.

i never said i didn't know how loud servers get i work in a data center lol trust me i know, i was just asking if it would be possibly to run it with FD40mm fans or if i would need the actively cooled 1U CPU fan sorry i have never been good at explaining myself properly lol my bad
