I went to an office and I was using their computer and I was curious because this is an high production studio that does tons of video editing, tournaments, etc! I seen that the processor was a "Intel Xeon E3-1245 V2 @ 3.4GHz" not sure if it was overclocked or not as I didn't check! I did research and this processor is cheaper than a "Intel i7-4770k" with almost the same performance if not better!

Which one should I grab?

1) Intel Xeon E3-1245 V2 Ivy Bridge LGA 1155

2) Intel Xeon E3-1245 V3 Haswell LGA 1150

3) Intel Xeon E3-1275V3 Haswell LGA 1150

The performance on these with gaming, and heavy video production would be good correct?
I'll be doing heavy gaming at 4k or 3 1080p monitors with this build, I'll also be doing heavy video production and literally 24/7 streaming/recording.

Please tell me which processor I should get and if any of these are better than the Intel i7-4770k! Just wanna make sure! Thanks a lot!

Sum of the thread: Please tell me which processor that are listed is the best and if their better than the Intel i7-4770k.

You can't overclock a Xeon....

You really shouldn't use them for gaming, but you can if you're doing heavy video editing as well.

I could of swarn I seen a Xeon overclocked before... hmm..

And why not really for gaming? I'll be doing both, gaming and heavy video production, streaming etc.

the cpu has a H264 encoder (Quicksync) which is much better than the competition in terms of speed and quality

i wonder do the ivy and haswell Xeons have that crappy TIM instead of epoxy ?

EDIT Xeons can be using for gaming

they are pretty much the same thing but can handle LONG loads (24hr operations)

Any x86 processor can do gaming and Xeons e3-1230v3/1240v3 etc. are just Intel i7 Haswell 4770 without iGPU (the ones with 12x5 have iGPU usually).

you can overclock a xeon and you can use them for gaming they are basicly just a normal i7 but with some stuff disabled but for awnsering you question i would go with option 3

It feels much snappier than a Intel i7 4770k, I used both yesterday and the load times on the Xeon feel 10x faster so does game loading etc.

Might as well paint some racing stripes on there too.

just get the i7k, I mean no malicious intent but with what you just said, overclocking with a locked multi is going to be difficult. If you're actually buying a 4k display as you say you are, don't go the cheaper route.

What I meant was, for just gaming, it's not worth the money. I know he's doing Heavy Video editing though.

I swear I read in another thread that you can't overclock most Xeons...

:3 I have no clue where my definition of a Xeon came from, to be honest.

I'm going to leave now, It's clear I'm no help here >.>

No, it's fine, many many people on this forums share your initial opinion that Xeons are useless for gaming because, well, they are named "Xeon"... lol... xD

We learn throughout all our lifes, don't worry. =)

(i could be wrong to) nope as far as i know you can overclock every cpu but giving it a higher base clock i mean i did it with my i3 550  on wc

xD not useless, just not optimized.

You really think there is any processor optimized for gaming?

Games use x86... all current desktop CPUs have x86 and there are no more optimisations for using x86 software than x86 compatibility.

Xeon e3-1230v3 is the same CPU as i7 4770 but without GPU.

Xeons e5 are the real workstation xeons BUT they also work just fine for gaming (if not better in some games, they have 8 cores so might see improvements in coming next-gen titles a bit.

The only reason why xeon e5 are not recommended for gaming is:

a) they are much more expensive due to their server/workstation nature

b) they usually have a bit lower clocks due to more cores packed into the die
