Hi, my question is what is the difference between these two routers? I am looking for support for VPN and support NBN  PPPoE.

Access Point: Ubiquiti UniFi AP AC Lite 802.11ac Access Point

Router: Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite 3 Port RouterUbiquiti EdgeRouter X SFP Advanced Gigabit Ethernet Router

Thanks

I would recommend getting the edgerouter lite, as routing is hardware offloaded.  It can also serve the function of a dhcp server and firewall, which is what you need to make a 'gateway.'

I thought the edge router X is only suited to as router not modern?

Both work as routers. I am not sure of any differences in software.

Both are pure routers. The main difference is the Edge Router X is a general computing device that runs routing software where the Edge Router Lite is a hardware assisted router so has better performance specifications. For an internet connection speed like you can get from NBN this difference isn't going to matter, both can do the job.

My native language is C++

Unless you are going to take advantage of that SFP port, I really don't see a reason to get the X. The Edge Lite will even be overkill, considering that NBN speeds don't go over 100mbps. Difference between the two is that the Lite is new hardware while the X is the old hardware, thus the symbolic drop in price.

I don't see why the Lite or X wouldn't be compatible with the PPPoE.
