Ah, problem is I will have a 980Ti hooked up  to my system. Is it kinda like bitcoin mining?

Would it be more efficient to build a separate system, stick it in the spare room, and run that 24/7?

what do you mean by "more efficient"?

all of the "efficient"'s I can think of - power efficient, cost efficient - all tell that it would be more efficient to have it in your main PC and make it run on the M2070 whenever the PC is on

if it's 24/7 versus anything less, then yes - running 24/7 will fold more proteins
