What is folding?

Folding at home, or bionc, it is basically donating the power of the card to help out with scientific research.

Ah, problem is I will have a 980Ti hooked up  to my system. Is it kinda like bitcoin mining?

it's better - you're actually contributing to something meaningful, changing the world to be a better place, curing the cancer

Oh, nice. So, would I build a crappy PC, put that in, and have it running 24/7?

you can keep it in your main PC and run it 24/7 if you want

But I am going to have a 980Ti in there

you can have both if you have enough PCI-E slots

Ooh, I'll look into it. May be a problem, though, as it will be located on a desk, right next to my bed.

you can run it only sometimes

Would it be more efficient to build a separate system, stick it in the spare room, and run that 24/7?

what do you mean by "more efficient"?

all of the "efficient"'s I can think of - power efficient, cost efficient - all tell that it would be more efficient to have it in your main PC and make it run on the M2070 whenever the PC is on

Would it discover more cells or whatever on a separate system 24/7?

if it's 24/7 versus anything less, then yes - running 24/7 will fold more proteins
