Hi guys

So I need a second opinion on upgrades.

My current specs are:

I5 4460

Gigabyte B85M

8GB RAM

GTX 970

1TB HDD, 850 EVO

EVGA 750W (NEX750B)

So here are my options:

1.) Upgrade to a 6600K (and a better cooler obvs), new Motherboard and DDR4 RAM.

2.) Upgrade GPU now and CPU later.

I was thinking of getting a GTX 980 or 980Ti used when they're a bit cheaper.

(Would the 980 be worth upgrading to or should i just jump to a 980Ti for 1080p 60Hz gaming?)

(And how much better is the 1070 than a 980Ti?, is it worth buying one for more money?)

Thanks

I would say upgrade the GPU. If possible, wait until the price of the 1070 goes down and try to find one cheaper.

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

Nah Xeon's are useless to me

That Xeon is basically an i7-4790 with no iGPU.

Basically one of the best CPU for your current platform.

But yea, I would suggest upgrading everything to skylake platform rather than changing the CPU alone.

Don't go for 980, go for at least 980Ti.

970 to 980 is not worth it, you probably won't see much difference.

For 1080p 60Hz Gaming, a GTX-970 should be enough. The 980 Ti (and 1080) is designed for 4K gaming. The 1070 is for 1440p gaming. Granted, however, that having an "overkill" graphics card can enable extra graphics goodies at lower rez,

If you are getting less than 60Hz in 1080p gaming, it may be because of your CPU. What games are you playing? MMOs and some titles such as GTAV and Ashes of the Singularity require lots of CPU power.

You might be better off getting a newer Skylake - 6500, 6600, 6600K - and appropriate motherboard and DDR4 RAM.

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.

i5-6600, 16Gigs, ITX Corsair 250D, R9 390, 120Gig M.2 boot, 500Gig SATA SSD, no HDD
