8350 OC with a hyper212

anyone know what OC i could get out of my cpu with the hyper 212 , i run at stock atm and its gone up to 61 celcius ( rendering a video ) , good? bad ? have i got any head room to OC ?

silicone lottery aside, you should be able to get 4.4ghz with 1.3v (give or take) , the amount you gain from overclocking can be good if your rendering but theres often little to gain in gaming (well its not proportional), but i would set voltage in bios to 1.3v and raise the multi to 21 in amd overdrive and test an hour of amd overdrives stress test, monitor temps with core temp, and run prime 95, if it passes then try a 21.5 multi, and repeat.

the max recommended temp for an 8350 is 65*c (was 62 for phenom so makes sense), stay below that and your fine, you can run more voltage and get hgiher clocks but the voltage needed starts growing exponentially and the heat output does the same (still better than bulldozer), though the cpu wont shut down till 90*c if you hit 70 you probably need to take a look at your setup.
also dont use the stock thermal paste. will get round to that guide soon...

cpu-z over reads by 0.025v so if it says 1.35v its actually 1.325, if it says 1.28 its probably 1.25v

with a 212 evo you can typically hit 4.4-4.5 or so, keep pushing the cpu until you hit about 85 degrees

Absolute recommended thermal limits are below 70c, general threshold for zero mishaps is below 62c sustained, but generally mid 60's and below is permissible frequently.

It's to be expected, it's a chip that, I'm sure as you know, requires some hefty cooling and the Hyper 212 probably isn't extremely well cut out for it. If you're referring to TJmax theoretically that should be ok but I'm fairly certain despite AMD not releasing official numbers that it's in the proximity of the 60's and you don't really want it running near tj anyway. 

@MadManMarsBar check your mounts and paste application, what is your ambient? 61c is a bit warm for stock clocks. Make sure your board isn't doing anything silly with your voltages.

stock volts is anywhere from 1.15 to 1.3 from what ive read (it certainly isnt higher!) and anytime you read "i got 4.8ghz on stock volts!" theyre probably on auto and the motherboard is probably whacking tons of voltage in there to get it stable (TTL mentioned this in a recent video)

1.3-1.35 should get you a decent OC without too much heat, you can probably go higher but there wont be much benefit and the voltage needed will start to increase rapidly almost like a cube root, to go twice as fast you need 4 times the voltage and it creates 16x the heat...(im not that good at math but you get the idea)

overclock a bit but theres a point of diminishing returns where it doesnt make sense.

try 1.3-1.35v and see how far you can go.
