How to host a website?

Hi, so I'm trying to host this website that i found on the web and these are what it requires: 

PHP 5.3+
PHP PDO and MySQLi extensions
PHP-mcrypt extension
PHP-GD extension
MySQL database
At least one Minecraft server

 

But in a video that  the guy made i have to have a web server running. I'm a little new to this area but i am techy and can program just need to be pointed in the right direction.

I have the computer power a have full rackmount server just dont know what software to use.

If your just trying to host a website, I'd recommend just signing up for a free hosting site like 000webhost.  That way all you'll have to do is point the namespaces to the hosts location.

 

If you must host it on your own machine you're going to have to go through a serious process. You'll want to get WAMP, it's probably the easiest to set up. You'll likely have to set up port forwarding, DNS settings, and a bunch of other junk to get the domain to connect to your system from outside the network.

Ah, you also have to be careful, if your website gets a lot of traffic and you're using home internet, your ISP might fine you if you get caught (You're not supposed to host websites on a residential internet connection...they want to charge you more for a business connection).

 

But to get started, you can you any web server software, the most popular being apache. You can host websites under Windows Server, but the setup is a bit more complicated.

 

For sure though, you'll need a domain at the very least. For a website on a home connection, you'll need one that supports dynamic DNS (Since your IP on a home connection changes...where a business one stays static).

Use LAMP. Make sure to have protection though. Fail2Ban and such.

If you must host it on your own machine you're going to have to go through a serious process. You'll want to get WAMP, it's probably the easiest to set up.
