Hi i have called many times to the company and they seem no help but i hope im in the right place to ask, so i bought 250/100mbit last month and im only getting 100/100mbits

i called them to send an IT support to see what's the problem, he detected it was an cable which he replaced, and a router that i had to replace on my own ( my router TP link c2 ac720 gigabit ports)

then when i switched out the router i see no improvements what so ever still only getting 100/100 as i did with my old one. BUT the IT support guy looked and he got 250/100 in his computer does this mean my network card isn't supporting upp to gigabits speed? i got realteck PCIe GBE family controller networkcard. or do i have to connect directly into fiber???? my sytem goes like this

// WALL (WAN)-- ROUTER ( company provided so i have internet at home)// -- TP-LINK c2 arch720 // -- to computer

What router have you got now?

Sorry, I mean what modem/router have you got that is taking the input from the wall socket where the fibre enters the home?

TP link c2 arch750 and it says in their website when i looked at more info on my mobo it supports up too 1000mbit/s so idk what's the problem

No, that's saying it supports 1000Mbit/s internal network speed... not the speed from the fibre. For instance I have VDSL here, it suports UPTO 100Mbit/s is all on the fibre, so in the future if they upgrade the fibre externally to my property to say Gigabit fibre, my modem router is still limited to 100Mbit/s .... do you see what I mean?

Ypu have to look at what the modem/router says it can provide upto on the line coming into your home.

With your ISP, do they provide you with a modem or modem/router? or did you buy your own or whatever? We need the name of the device that gets the signal from the wall jack really.

It's possible that your network card is set to 100Mbps by default instead of 1Gbps. My mom's did that and I had to change it in her settings so follow the below instructions to double check that isn't the issue.

Right click on your network connection icon in the system tray and then left click on "Open Network And Sharing Center"

Once that window pops up left click on "Change Adapter Settings" in the upper left had corner, this will cause another window to open.

In that window right click on your Ethernet Connection icon and then left click on "Properties".

In the Properties window left click on the "Configure..." button below the name of the Ethernet Controller.

In the Configuration window click on the tab that says "Advanced" and in that tab there should be a scroll bar on the left side for Properties. In that scroll bar find the option for "Speed & Duplex" and left click on it to select it. Then in the Value drop down box click on "1.0Gbps Full Duplex" to make sure your network card isn't set to 100Mbps, Click "OK" and close the windows and try a speed test again.

Yes it could be as above says... it could be several different things, we can only try to troubleshoot them one at a time. I have had a quick look at the modem/router that was provided to you and it seems to suggest that it can indeed support upto 1000Mbit/s on the WAN side of the network. So you should be OK there unless they didn't configure it properly... for now we shall assume they did configure it properly as they had an engiineer checl also, correct?  One quick thing to check though, the indicator lights on the box, one of them should be labelled WAN, I think 3rd from left, so you have power which should be Green, WWW which should also be gree, and then WAN which could be either green or orange... which is it, just out of curiousity?

I think the problem could be as @imreloadin says, but assumed you had already checked your connectivity as you were asking about your ISP etc, my bad if so. Hopefully you have it sorted now, but if not get back to us and we'll try to go through some more options.

What kind of Ethernet cable are you using? If it's just a Cat-5 cable then the highest bandwidth it supports is 100Mbps. You need at least Cat-5e cables as they're the ones that support up to 1Gbps throughput.

It's possible that the auto negotiation between the Router and the ONT (Optical Network Terminal) is not negotiating properly and defaulting to 100mb rather than 1000mb. It could be due to the cable or an interop issue between vendors and/or chipsets. If you plug direct into the ONT with your PC what speeds do you get? and does your Speed still show 1Gbit in the network interface settings?

Ok, first I just want to get something straight... when you say router as below, do you actually mean the modem/router provided by the company?

20 hours ago, M9shaboi said:

i manged to get up to 250/100 by connecting with out the modem just like this PC>Router>Wall but when i play games and such stuff everything is slower than i had with the modem on so idk what's going on

I think the IP address of your company provided modem/router and the tplink C2 might be the same or there is a conflict there for sure. Look up the IP addresses of both those devices and see.

If I'm correct all you need to do is go into your Tplink router and change the Ip address to something like 192.168.1.2 (assuming your modem/router is 192.168.1.1) and save it. This is usually in the LAN setup panel or similar. Then just to make sure, go into your modem/router settings and chnage it so that it either doesn't act as DHCP server at all or the range is from 3-254 instead of 2 as we don't want it to give that address to something else on the network as it's assigned to the tplink.
