Hi LinusTechTips community

I got a question that I need a bit of help with.

I am building a new pc, with an i7-6850k cpu and I will get myself a gtx 1080 gpu (will properly upgrade to 1080ti when it comes out, since I am gaming on a UWQHD monitor).

My question is, should I go for a custom water loop for the cpu and gpu.
Or should I just get a AIO for the cpu and get for example a msi gtx 1080 sea hawk that got an AIO cooler on it?

It will be alot cheaper with the two AIO, so I am curious how much extra performance the custom loop would get me?

I am overclocking. But I have never tried a custom loop before.
If I am going to upgrade the gtx 1080, it will be with a water block on it also. Since I my pc stand in a place where there isn't that much air flow.

Should note that I am not making a build with a glass window in the side, the pc is hide away, so it shall not be for the looks.

Looking forword to your guys advice and help :)

Custom water cooling never makes sense in a price to performance stand point. I'm not saying nobody should ever do it ever. It's more  of a fun project than a practical one.

You will get similar performance from the AIO's if you get the right ones and not cheap out on junky cheap ones. Custom loop is honestly 99% show with 1% functionality when it comes to performance over a AIO.

just get an AIO, its cheaper and less time consuming to do.

AIOs have shitty pumps. You'll get fed up with the noise eventually. EK Predator is the only exception I've seen (though I'd still only accept a D5 personally). Yet to see the new Swiftech stuff though.

But having said that, Pascal cards really do need liquid cooling. It unlocks a whole new world for them. The difference in boost clock stability is something you would not even believe.

Liquid cooling since 2002.
