Best perferoming CPU cooler for S340

Gall Cohen

Hey guys, planning on buying a new PC, I have a S340 which I will use with the new parts, I need an air cooler for the CPU.

I'll buy an I5 6600K and will want to OC it a bit, which air cooler would you reccomand?

Thanks!

Budget isn't an issue but I am limited to Noctua, Cooler master, Antec, Arctic, Zalman, Scythe and Thermaltake.

If you're restricted to those brands, then I suggest the Noctua NH-D14.

Based on the list, your best cooler will be the Notcua NH-D15

an NHD15s won't fit in the s340, unless you swap BOTH fans for 120mm.

A NHD14 will however fit.

Silverstone FT-05: 8 Broadwell Xeon (6900k soon), Asus X99 A, Asus GTX 1070, 1tb Samsung 850 pro, NH-D15

I talked to somebody who owns the D15 and it's not comfortable at all, not worth a few degrees.

In the end I will be buying 6700K, I am debating between the D14 and a U12S because I don't want it to be too crowded, what do you think?

Id personally go with the 12s on the s340 due to height clearance, although the 14 would fit (i believe). But super large tower coolers look awkward imo in that case because the top of the case is so "low" compared to other cases

I don't think a 60$ cooler on a I5 6600K is that expensive actually but in the end I might get a I7 6700K anyway :) I plan of buying a gtx 1070, a 1080 is a lot more money and i'd prefer to sell my 1070 in a few years and get a new one, while the rest of my system will be strong enough to handle it(hopefuly, future proofing is tricky).

Thanks guys!

1070 is just fine. If you aren't doing extreme overclocking pick up the 6700k (much more future proof than a 4 core no hyper therading cpu) and a hyper 212x cooler that should be around :D

I've had a NH-D15 in a S340 and it fits pretty easily with the fans lowered.

If cost isn't an issue, get a NH-D15 or NH-D15S. Otherwise, the Mugen Max is an alternative that isn't too far behind: http://ksp.co.il/?select=.1066..182..2625..115.&list=1&sort=2&glist=0&uin=25921&txt_search=&buy=&minprice=0&maxprice=0&intersect=&rintersect=

They're the same height.

He ment the 14S, it's about 165 MM in hight and conflicts with the case, just in this case it's the cooler and not the fans.

I'll also give the Max a look, though I'd prob go for the smaller 12S in the end, as someone said big coolers in smaller cases tend to look strange, also it's performance seemed great!

I think systems look awkward when there's too much empty space. To each their own.

Agreed to a certain degree, I don't like when a cooler that looks rather dull covers a motherboard or ram sticks that look better, ofc not to sacrifice cooling either and go

with a small tower for an oc'ed chip.
