Ok so I was talking in my other post but then this problem happened so I want to start a new thread based around this darn problem.  So my graphics cards was running to hot so I decided to reapply the thermal paste because I knew I was kinda conservative with it the first time.  I have a static free pad, I wear a static bracelet,  I am careful.  So took my gpu out, took off plate, reappliedthe paste, reversed steps, went to power it on, all my case/fan LEDs QUICKLY flash, then turn off, but my RAM leds stay on (GeIL Super Luce), nothing else happens,  no fans spin, no boot up, no nothing but RAM light (and the super quick other led flash right when button is hit.) The green light on the motherboard power button stays on too.

Any ideas on what would do this out of the blue?  Was working just fine 30 mins ago

Thanks,

Rich

Hi! I wrote a guide for basic power on problems and you can find it in my signature, but I have a feeling that a bit of thermal paste may have been pushed out of the GPU and into the PCB, shorting something out.

But to make sure that it is that, please test the computer without the GPU, either by connecting to integrated graphics or by using a motherboard speaker to tell whether POST was completed.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Computer having a hard time powering on? Troubleshoot it with this guide. (Currently looking for suggestions to update it into the context of <current year> and make it its own thread)

Since the GPU was what I was working on trying to post with GPU removed was my first test, it did nothing. But I just tried the PSU test by connecting green wire to a ground and the fan did a like half a turn then died and after trying a couple more times it did nothing at all,  so im guessing its some how my PSU being bad. Jays2Centz did a video with him using half a tube of thermal paste on his GPU to show as long as you're not using conductive paste you really cant put to much pasteon a GPU, unlike a CPU which is no Bueno at all.

Any thought after this update?

Yes. What model is your PSU?

Funny thing is when I built this new computer  (which was around or less than a month) the ONLY component I kept from my old pc was this PSU lol, cause I never had a problem with it! Go figure ah? It is a EVGA SuperNOVA 750w Modular (Model # 120-PG-0750-GR)

That looks like a fine PSU.

Do take the steps on the guide then.

Yea I read the thread, and everything you mentioned weee the steps ive already taken besides taking the whole motherboard out which I really would like to avoid and don't think it would change anything as I did nothing at all but remove and replace GPU. I resert CMOS with button AND battery. I have a feeling it's going to be that PSU why else would the fan test not work?

I would test outside the case anyway. It could save you from an RMA

Ummm lol, so I was sucking it up, maning up and just jumping into the disassembly,  I removed my GPUs radiator fan (which was the final part actually holding mu GPU into the case), for shits and giggles after totally removing the GPU out of the case I tried firing it up, hit the power and  BAM fired up lol, noooo clue what a radiator fan changed but after it fired up I basically installed 1 piece, tested, installanother,  test and so on, everything back in and its posting np lol,  I kinda hate when shit like that happens because I don't learn anything BUT I definitely am happy its posting again, lol.

Thanks tho for the help, with out you telling me to disassemble I might have stressed for dayslol, so thanks again,

Rich
