Hi there. So I currently have a Gtx 970, and I was wondering how long this card should last me if I am not a super gaming enthusiast. Also, with the release of 1060, how fast will the value of 970 be decreasing? (ie would it be better to sell it now vs later and how much would a used 970 card go for?)

Bit late to sell, the value has tanked already. It is still a good card, it should last many years.

well, i'll put it like this:

i have a GTX970, and i'm sure it'll last me probably trough the entire GTX10 series.

my gaming demands dont really change, so my gpu requirement doesnt really change. how long the GPU will last for you depends on how fast your requirements change.

(people who want to max out every new AAA title released will be looking at a new high end GPU every year, people who are more on the older games bandwagon, and/or the alternative -usually more lightweight- genres may only need a new gpu every couple of generations)

Ok, thanks for the answers guys. So if I decide to keep this card for the next year or two and then decide to get a new card, what do people usually do with old graphics cards like this?

When you feel like you're in need of more performance, get a new card and sell the old one. Unless you really don't need the money, give it to someone or put it in a secondary rig.

Keep it as spares for a time of need.

If I decide to sell it, would the card still be in the 100-150 range or would it most likely tank even more? I know this is hard to predict, but would people buy like say a GTX 670 for 100-150 today? Also, would people pay more depending on which 970 it is (like MSI Gaming 4d vs EVGA SSC)

A 670 is worth less than 80$ today. Next year, when Navi and Volta come out, a 970 will be worth less than 80$ as well.

I still see GTX 770's listed for $100-150 on Ebay right now, and 970's for $160+. I don't know how quickly or successfully they're selling at those prices, but it goes to show that pricing in the second-hand market doesn't always make a lot of sense. There's a lot of people out there who don't know how to compare a used GTX 970 to a new RX 480 or whatever.

I'm waiting for Volta and Navi, since i'm currently using the shitties PC and Setup ever (Intel B960 (can't even run CS 1.6 at 30fps 640x480)) so in 2017 i plan to upgrade to like a GTX Titan if i can find one for cheap or a 780Ti or even a 970 and build a decent setup and make a thread about it

Ill probably just keep it on hand if I need it for some reason. If more games start supporting physx, I might use it as a dedicated card. Not really worth selling it as it will be worth below 70 when that time comes.

Lol yeah, I'll probably use it to build a budget pc for my younger brother.
