I have an HP Pavilion DV6-6100, when I start it up and it is at idle it will sit around 55C, when I then put the CPU under load it will almost immediately shoot up to the 80s-90s and sometimes completely overheats and shuts off. However if I put it under load and it reaches into the 80s, and I then pull it off load and back to idle, it will still hover around the 80C mark, and will not go back down in any reasonable amount of time. The CPU fan does work, I replaced it recently and can hear it running at 100% when it reaches the higher temps, when I replaced the CPU fan I also replaced the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU, and I am confident that I put enough on to adequately work.

So my question is what do you guys think? I'm starting to believe the heat pipes are bad, but I would like to hear what you have to say.

I've got a laptop from '09, I still use as it was very good then and okay now, even new underload it would over heat without a fan/docking station after about and hour of gaming. I worked up a steel shelf and fans to augment the internal fan. Worked great.

I am a paid professional, but only when I am at work...and getting paid.
