Intelligent LiPo Charger with Arduino?

Hello Guys,

I plan on building a hexacopter so thats my background on this.

As the title says I wanna build an intelligent Charger / battery sustainer with an arduino or similar board. I can also build it completely on my own because i can make doublesided prints.

What I hope you guys can give me:

  • Suggestions on how to do it
  • maybe a schematic / programm which would do the job
  • if autodetection is not possible i would add a switch to change the setting according to the battery (voltage/cells)

It should work kinda like this:

over a switch you can set charging mode or sustain mode + a small display to set the current percentage of the battery and the best spot for storing the battery

  1. connect battery --> detect 6s/4s --> charge
  2. if battery has reached 75% (or best spot for battery to stay in) --> check switch state
  • charging mode: load it till 100% and keep it there
  • sustain mode: discharge 10% and reload it (repeat)

Thanks,

Akadis

The problem is that since LiPo's have multiple cells, youust balance these so they are all the same voltage. Im sure you could do it with an arduino, but it would be much safer and much easier to purchase a 20 euro 4 button charger.
