My current PC is getting old so I decided to build a new one. I want to start by choosing a GPU, I'm not going to overclock anything, therefore I only care about base numbers. I need something with 4/6/8GB of VRAM, which is reliable and has a good overall value. I'm not going to render anything, mine bitcoins or play at 4k, I need a single GPU just for games at 1080. My budget is flexible, but I don't want to overpay for GPUs like 1080 or 980ti, especially considering the markup in Russia (yes, I'm russian, and it sucks to buy components here; Just so you understand, rx 470 4gb is worth 180$ in USA, while in Russia recommended price is around 255$). I was thinking about rx 480 8gb, but they're hard to find and mostly heavily overpriced. I'm looking to pay ~190-350$ for the GPU (btw, 350$ is an average price for the 8gb rx 480 here), I've never built PCs before so I have no experience in choosing components and I don't know what some numbers in specs mean.

P.S It better be less than 310mm in length for the case I chose.

Thanks in advance :P

I would recommend the RX 480 or the GTX 1060 if you can find one. I'm not sure about Russia, but I know that the 1060 can be found for much cheaper than the 480 outside of the US. I wouldn't recommend the RX 470 since the price doesn't make much sense (at least here in the US) considering that the 480 can be purchased for less than $50 more. Either card will give you the ability to run most games at 1080p and ultra settings.

1060 or 1070 maybe? depending on the prices in russia

Makes sense. What about choosing a model? Is it worth it to overpay 90$ for some minor improvements, like a bit higher frequency, a bit more MHz, a bit higher capacity etc.? (Palit GeForce GTX 1060 DUAL 6G VS Asus GeForce GTX 1060 STRIX OC as an example) Or should I just go for the cheapest one? For the mid-priced one?

If there is a 90$ difference between those two cards then definitely get the cheaper one. Performance will be largely the same and the only difference is in cooling, aesthetics and sound. Also how much does the 1060 cost compared to the rx 480? If prices are close I'd get the gtx 1060.

The cheapest ones are like ~50$ away from each other, the most expensive ones are ~90$ away from each other. (rx being worth less obviously)

If the rx 480 is 50$ cheaper then I would personally get that.

Thanks for the help everyone, I really appreciate your answers <3

Shall I post my full computer specs as new topic on this forum? I'm pretty scared of screwing up, so I'd really like some1 to tell me that everything is going to work together before I go out and buy the stuff. ._.

I don't really want to bother you guys with such things, but that would really make me feel more confident. :P

Just get one with a decent cooler. MSI, EVGA, Asus etc..

My old (lol) R9 380x served well at 1080p. Can't MAX all graphics, but it will certainly deliver even at 4GB of vram. Check out the benchmarks somewhere on youtube. Since the price drop (thanks to the Rx 480 release) it should be affordable for your budget and let you pick out some decent components elsewhere as well so you aren't bottlenecking. Good luck!
