At the moment my current 3yr old 1 TB Seagate HDD is about half way in service and is really starting to get slow. Im wondering if I should either get a new HDD or Add in an SSD to my machine. A New 1 TB HDD costs as much as a 128 GB SSD and I can only afford one as much as I want both.

If you've been using a drive for 3 years, its unlikely the drive itself is becomming slow, more likely that it has become cluttered by useless applications, or that your windows is running slowly due to too many background processes.

Assuming that you know all this and its neither one of those... I would recommend getting whichever is more beneficial to you. Do you need the 1TB of storage? or do you want faster windows navigation with a SSD?

I Kinda need the speed mostly as my 1 TB HDD has about 600 GB left on it. I have wiped the drive a few times in its life so really its more like 1 year of information. Multiple times have I also gone through trash and got rid of it (Though the old A6 3650 sometimes does not help matters). Also The HHD does make a few odd noises when large files are being transfered.

Get the SSD for the OS and keep this as a secondary. Run chkdsk /r to get rid of the bad sectors. The noises you're experiencing are most likely due to fragmentation. It's normal.

Hello :)

As the guys suggested, do check the drive's health with a tool from the manufacturer and check its S.M.A.R.T. status' raw values in order to get a better idea of what's going on with it. If it's still in a good health you can use it as a storage drive and get a SSD for your OS. This should speed up your system and improve its responsiveness.

Another thing to check would be the level of fragmentation on your HDD as this is another thing that may slow its performance down.

Post back with the test results!

get the SSD it will boost your performance way more than the HDD would have
