something's not right there,

make sure you have te administrative privileges to make those changes or there might be a system conflict elsewhere  - it's not supposed to behave like that

When I try to install .Net Framework, I just get the already installed or something saying it failed. Also windows updates does not work. This started when I reinstalled windows 8 then upgraded to windows 10. It has been many months since then, but now I want to get this fixed. Thanks

what version of .Net are you trying to install?

Win8.1 has .NET 4.5.1 as OS component already installed

Win10 has .NET 4.6 as OS component already installed

If you run updates on Win10 then it installs .NET 4.6.1 as OS component

so that's probably why you're getting the "already installed or something saying it failed" warning....

I've tried a lot of different versions. Windows update does not work at all, like it does not start.

what is the goal you are trying to achieve by installing .Net Framework??

I can almost guarantee that you already have it installed.

To verify that run this command in command prompt:

wmic product where "Name like 'Microsoft .Net%'" get Name

CPU: Intel i7 5820K @ 4.20 GHz | MotherboardMSI X99S SLI PLUS | RAM: Corsair LPX 16GB DDR4 @ 2666MHz | GPU: Sapphire R9 Fury (x2 CrossFire)

C:\WINDOWS\system32>wmic product where "Name like 'Microsoft .Net%'" get Name
No Instance(s) Available. is what i got

The reason I want to get this to work is because some programs wont work such as Just Cause 2 or motionjoy but the main one is BattleField 3 and it was telling me I need to install .NET, and then it would start the download for it and fail every time. But now it is telling my VC++ runtime redistributable package is not installed, so I guess that is the problem now. I did the install the vcredist_x64&x84 and they both fail to install.

  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Go to Programs and Features
  3. Click on Turn Windows Features on or off
  4. Make sure all the .Net packages are checked
  5. Click OK
  6. Restart the system

.NET is a critical part of Windows since Windows 7 SP1. If you can't install/update it then something is wrong with your operating system. Backup your important files and reinstall.
