Hello.

I build my first pc yesterday and I got it working. I had a really bad cooler that came with a pre built pc so I removed it and changed it for a "Bequiet dark rock 3" Since I have never done this before I thought I had to remove the metal holding thing. I removed it and I put my processor in there.

I flipped the pc so it would stand upwards and the proccesor fell out of the case on the ground. I moved the proccesor aside and then later put my pc on the bottom of the cpu chip but I noticed it instantly and placed it somwhere else.

After I got everything plugged in and when I turned the pc on all the fans start spinning the led goes on and everything goes off after 2 seconds.

Does this mean I broke my cpu?

Thanks.

Edit:

Specs:

GPU: EVGA gtx 1070 SC

CPU: i7 4770 @3.5ghz

Supply: Corsair VS 650

Motherboard: As rock h97 anniversary.

It's unlikely that you broke the CPU just from that.

For now, remove your graphics card and and see if it works that way.

If it still doesn't work, remove your power supply and jump start it using the following process:

Don't leave it on for too long though or it might overheat.

Make sure you didn't bend any pins inside the socket after the CPU you fell out. That should have broke the CPU but the pins inside the socket are something to be concerned about. I would also do all of the step that Litargirio stated.

Sorry didn't read the full post until now.

If you had it working before, remove the CPU and check if there is anything sticking around the socket or the bottom or the chip that might be interfering with proper current flow. If you do see something inside the socket though, do NOT touch it by any means though... just post a picture and we'll think of something.

The pins are bend over so I will try it with an old motherboard that was inside a pre-built pc. This motherboard does not have a name

Yeeeah you did damage the CPU socket. That motherboard won't work until you completely straighten those pins back up.

You could either try it yourself with a needle, if you have very precise and agile fingers, or try to find someone who might be able to do it for you.

I also found out that I forgot to plug in the cable for the cpu. I'm going to try it again and if that does not wor I will try to straighten the pins as @Litargirio suggested

Spoiler alert: it won't work.

I tried as much as I could by straightning the pins. I broke 3 of them and it still looks like it's broken but I got the pc to boot up but i had no monitor plugged in so I could not tell if it worked. I shut down the pc immediately after 10 seconds because I did not want to break the cpu because I did not have a cooler placed on. Will it break my cpu if I use it even if 3 pins are broken?

Thanks

It won't break the CPU.

But if you have 3 broken pins, you can forget about ever using that motherboard again, because it won't work. It tends to need all of the pins to do so.

There is still a chance for those 3 pins to be unused on that CPU, and thus for the motherboard to still work in spite of it, but the actual chances of that actually being the case are as good as nil.

It depends on exactly for what those pins were used for.

The processor has a huge amount of pins and a large number of them are voltage and ground, it's like having 50-100 wires going from the + side of the voltage regulator into the CPU and 50-100 black wires going to the minus side.  Processors are using multiple pins for the same purpose because the huge amount of current going into the processor and so that voltage could go in several parts of the processor more easily.  If you broke a few of these pins that have the same purpose, the other pins will pick up the load easily and the processor will work just fine.

However, if one of the pins was used for something else like connection to the memory slots, if you're lucky you'll only get memory errors reading or writing to one memory module but other memory slots may work just fine.  If you're really unlucky those pins were very important and you'd get crashes, unstable operation.

If you can take a picture of the socket really close (tip, use macro mode) and maybe we can tell you exactly what the pins are used for and if it's safe to use that motherboard. Also say the socket and the motherboard model.

The pc starts and all the fans are spinning. I can see the asrock logo and the loading dots of windows 10. After a couple seconds the loading dots freeze, I get a black screen and it says: "no signal found" does this mean my motherboard is broken or my CPU

Motherboard. Broken pins, remember? That's why.

Take a picture of the socket so we can see which pins are broken.

Also, CPUs almost never break. If it was broken, the PC would just stay powered off.
