I was not sure what to put this under, and thought this was the closest I could get.

First off, is it worth it to upgrade my Optiplex 745 Desktop with RAM and possibly a new GPU? It would only play Minecraft because I want my Dad to have a computer so he doesn't have an excuse to not play Minecraft with me :P

Second, would DDR2 laptop RAM work in the DDR2 Desktop slots? My Mom said that it wouldn't, and has a probability of frying my Mobo, but i wanted more input on the subject.

Third, what would be a good GPU for my main desktop? It has a A10 7850K, 16 gigs of RAM, and is running on the integrated Graphics. It cant be too expensive, as the only chance i have of getting one is to ask for it for my Birthday or Christmas, as I owe my mom $149 USD. Also, it would need to be better then my integrated Graphics, as,; A, i want my $700+ USD desktop to run Minecraft better then my mom's $500 USD 2011 MacMini, and B: i want to run Star Wars Battlefront better, as it is unplayable atm.

Thank you for reading,

-Brick

Well the Ram thing, I really don't think so. It shouldn't even fit (laptop uses SODIMM). About the GPU, I'd hold off for a moment to see what the RX470 and RX460 will bring, I think one of those should suit your setup very well.

So first, your laptop probably uses SODIMMs so they wont fit. GPU.. well I would go for an API/AMD card because I believe you can crossfire your integrated APU and your GPU then, but tell me if im wrong. maybe the MSI R9 380 4GD5T OC that you can get here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127913&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker, LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Laptop SODIMMs will not fit in your desktop RAM slots. Don't try.

GPU wise on a budget, in the US$100 ish range there is the ZOTAC GTX 750 ti or some version of the AMD R7 360. Both have 2GB VRAM and will kick ass running your Minecraft.
