I have an intel s2600gz motherboard that I got for <$100 with 2 e5-2670 cpus in it. This motherboard has 2 pcie x24 slots.

I know I can plug in an x16 extension to use the first 16 lanes for a gpu, but what about the back 8 lanes?
Could I theoretically get one of the x8 to x16 extension cables with a molex and cut off the power pins on the front of the x8 male connector and put it at the back of the x24 slot?

I might just be crazy and need to find/buy one of the proprietary risers, but they're expensive and I'd prefer a lower profile solution.

It's an Intel specified x24 pcie 3.0 slot. I'm fairly certain it's just an x16 slot with 8 extra lanes added.
