i wouldnt get an asrock board, considering asus' 990fx boards are pretty low right now

Heres an ASUS one.

But I'm a big fan of this Gigabyte one being in line with my dark colored theme, good ratings too.

Im an asus fan, but go with the gigabyte, it has a better 8+2 vrm instead of 6+2 and like you said has the black theme, black wont look bad in 10 years like old beige computers did, or silver cases did, my black inno3d mx440 63mb agp card still looks awesome cus it has a black PCB :D

Don't get the GTX670. If you want a Nvidia card get the GTX 770 4GB and if you don't card which GPU vendor you get and you just want raw performance wait for the R9 280X. After you have chosen your motherboard and make sure you choose an ATX motherboard, go to any of the RAM vendor's website and use their RAM finder utility for getting compatible RAM for your rig. This is Corsair's....http://www.corsair.com/us/learn_n_explore/ and this is Patriot's....http://www.patriotmemory.com/support/memory_selector.jsp and this is GSkill's......http://www.gskill.com/en/configurator

I personally would not get the FX series as AMD has stated they are stopping support for it.

P.S. You did not display any stupidity.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

Man the 770 is way out of budget. Starts @ $400 on newegg. Since I want to stick with the $140 Gigabyte board It looks like my options are narrowed to the 660 (ti or not), the 760 (haven't looked too much into that one) and a range of radeon cards, which are about to get refreshes soon it looks like.

Keeping my eyes towards Nvidia heres a good 660ti. Still get all those Asus goodies.

Not the biggest fan of the shroud but this seems the most likely competitor right now on AMD 7950 side.

Heres what I have so far, I'd say it works out pretty Well.

Mobo: ASRock 990FX Extreme 3. Has SLI abilities and OC looks easy with this board, room for fun expansion.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157281

GPU: Asus GTX 670. Pretty powerful, SLI, future proofed. I also have a strange bias for nvidia, yet i buy AMD cpu's ya I'm weird.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121637.

CPU: AMD FX-6300. Nothing Special, easily replaceable. Packs a pretty punch when OC'd it looks like.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113286

RAM: 8GBs Patriot Viper. Great black look, trying too keep a dark theme with all the components, yes it does matter.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220685

I've permanently picked out everything else already. This leaves me $20 to spare. Any recommendations, I like it. leaves room for expansion and isn't outrageously expensive.

What about psu, operating system, case, and you may need a disk drive etc.

I agree it is, but the 8320 will be better value for money in this case on a $/thread basis.

most games only use 4 cores is the general consensus, intels hyperthreaded cores often go unused but because of way amds scheduler works it tends to spread heavily threaded applications very well so that it goes across all cores.

say you had your fx6 at 4ghz in bf3 with a load of 80% across all cores.

the fx8 at the same speed with have a load of 53.3% across all cores (if my math is correct, give or take)

also it gives the flexability to assign a module/2 threads to do something else while retaining the ability to carry on without a performance hit

considering the 33% boost i'd say it was worth the 14% more cash..

I'll have to disagree with the CPU load on BF4, with my FX8350 I had around 70+ CPU load on all cores, sometimes less sometimes more.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkGpBmjPAK5edDByNVpSclZJbGhpZTA4SkJZeTY4QkE&usp=sharing

check that link and you'll see the CPU load.

I am not saying that the FX6300 wouldn't be a smart buy, but under BF4 the load on all cores should be higher.

Nice documentation! I guess if you have a fx6300 you could hope for better optimization by release.

THATS WHAT IVE BEEN SAYING!

edit im hitting about 90% on my phenom, im starting to get worried, also my gtx285 isnt really cutting it. (25-38fps on ultra 1080p in bf4)

on the plus side i bought my b55 for f*** all and the girlfriend is buying it for skyrim, wot, minecraft and so on so it wont bottleneck her and my gtx285 was intended to be a wall piece so its still a win.

im either buying an 8320+ud3+7950 ( i put my money where my mouth is) or a second hand 3930k, £300 asus board and a 7950/r9-290 depending on cash levels. i dont game or render much but i do them both equally and im impatient and want it to last me a looong time, but for the money cant beat those a 8320+ud3+7950

So I'm working on my first build and I want to apologize right now for any display of stupidity, I'm doing my best. I recently bought a case, a 650 watt power supply, and a hard drive just to get basic components out of the way. What I'm looking at now and haven't yet made a decision on are the other primary components, namely the gpu and cpu. I want to prepare for future upgrades as much as possible, so I first thought a higher end graphics card, and a mid range cpu.

Im looking at the AMD FX-6350, and pairing that with Asus' GTX 670.

Is this too unbalanced in terms of computing power. Withing the year I will be able to upgrade (the CPU), so I won't have to ride out the potential bottleneck very long, but if this is a bad setup, what are some other options. I was considering the 660 or the 660ti with the AMD FX-8350? Just keeping ideas open, I'd love some help.Thanks.

You should get a 760 not a 670. They are the same performance(The 760 edges out a bit) but it costs less. Then you can put more money into into the CPU. An 8320 is a good option.
