Hey guys!

So, I'm not yet upgrading my CPU, but atleast I can look around for 2nd hand CPU's, right now I'm rocking a Z97 PC Mate motherboard, with an i5-4460 3,2 GHz.

And I want to know if it's best upgrading to a i7-4770k or i7-4790k, and if so, how much cheaper should the 4770k be, before I should consider that one instead of the 4790k?

4790K will run cooler as Devil's Canyon features vastly improved TIM.

They are the same processor with different thermal paste under the heatspreader, allowing the 4790K slightly more consistent overclocks. A used 4790k should be 250, a used 4770k would be $220-230

There is actually a LTT video in the works on which CPU to buy. Everyone here has answered you though.

There are a few differences between the chips. The max res on the iGPU through hdmi of the 4770k is actually higher, at 4096x2304@24 vs 3840x2160@24 on the 4790k, as well as support for VT-d on the 4790k.

But would that matter if I'm just gonna use my GPU?

Yeah, but it's not important that it runs at a higher resolution since he'll be on d-gpu in all likelihood anyway, and the VT-d doesn't make a difference to the average user.

Perhaps not, but saying they are the same would be a disservice to a potential buyer.
