Laptop for Uni

Go to solution Solved by don_svetlio,

So I took a look at that site. Here's what it boils down to

This is an option, great value BUT - the top lid is HORRIBLE. you need to be VERY careful

This is great BUT it's expensive

This is also an option, slower GPU than the HP but better durability
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/asus-k501ub-15-6-laptop-grey-10137632-pdt.html

Lastly, I found this. 940MX is better than a 940M but not as good as the 950M. Build is decent (plastic but solid, not like the HP). Overall, this would probably be my pick for your budget.

Well I had a look at it.  Ideally it is 500 to 600 quid.  The Acer being more expensive was just an afterthought I added.

Both look nice though and on the right track so I'm going to search for lower end models  unless anyone has any better ideas.

Hey guys.  I need a laptop to  use when I am out and about in uni.  I have a budget of 500-600GBP.

My use case is mainly writing reports so a decent size screen and good battery life is nice.  Also being able to have several hundred page RPG rulebooks open at the same time is needed.

In terms of gaming I don't really need it to but if it could run Blade and Soul that would be sweet.

Any recommendations.

I have seen this but it is a dash out of my price range.

Avoid the Acer V Nitro series. Horrible heat issues.

Take a look at the Dell 7559 and Lenovo IdeaPad 700 (white one)

For typing - the IdeaPad is best and comes with a 1080p IPS display. Winner. Expect 4-5 hours of battery.

Oh now i see 600GBP = 798$ , that dell is the best one, even if he is going to use it for typing i`m very sure he is going to try some games too at some point and having a more powerfull laptop is way better

The Dell 7559 is a good VALUE option but not great for typing. If you want a good keyboard Lenovo or HP (and sometimes Asus)

I'm leaning towards saving a little more cash and grabbing the HP.  Though what's wrong with the lid?  I can't tell.

It flexes HORRIBLY and that can damage the screen. It needs to be handled VERY carefully. Here's a review.

@Naith123 Just a heads-up. If you go for the HP, avoid putting any pressure on the top lid, it's extremely easy to brick a LCD. I recently RMAed my Y50 for that kind of issue (and mine has a metal top and basically no flex)

The IdeaPad 510 also comes with an i5 config from the looks of it. It's about 10% slower but costs 100 quid less. You could opt for that if you want. It should also have a 940MX, just a slower CPU.
