Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how to get the best internet out of up and coming dorm room at Ohio State University. I don't know if I'll be able to use lan connections (although I do know that some dorms have access points and switches for the students) so any tips on how to get the best wifi signal out of my system would be awesome. My build is as follows

I7 4790k

msi b85m-g43 mobo

16gb ddr3 1333 Ram

PNY 960gb SSD

GTX 1070

Bitfenix prodigy M

Kraken x61 AIO CPU cooler

I know you probably don't need all that info but better safe than sorry ;)

Also if anyone wants to know, my dorm is in Baker hall west on the 4th floor.

This depends greatly on your access to a wired connection. If you can get a wired connection, but still want to use WiFi, you can get an access point for your personal use. That way, you're not going to be slowed down by access points with hundreds of people on them. That being said, if the college has access points good enough to comfortably have the people in your dorm connected, then a dedicated access point isn't going to help much.

Best solution is to hardwire straight to your PC if you're allowed to.

Just as a heads up, a lot of colleges don't like students bringing their own APs with them because of possible interference with limited wifi channels and the fact that a misproperly configured AP is a giant hole in their network security system.
