GPU/CPU Upgrade

Hello, I am currently running a Strix 750ti and an i3-6100. I am planning an upgrade and am looking at two options - getting a 1070 or a 1060 and i5. Thanks in advance.

buy the graphics card first and see how stuff goes. after that, anything that causes problems will probably be the cpu.

You likely would be better off getting the 1070 as the FPS per dollar ratio is much better on that card. And I say definitely go for it on the i5

Ok thanks, how much will my i3 bottleneck the 1070 though.

It will bottleneck, but my guess would be slightly.

I do recommend getting an i5 though.

Well I was only going to get an i5 with the 1060 to stay ~$500

I'd get the 1070 since you won't have a bottleneck in nearly every scenario. 

But what CPU would you look at if you get the 1060?

If you sell your current components atm u can probably squeeze an i5 and a 1070. Regardless tho a 1060 would be a big upgrade from a 750 ti

Probably the 6500

I would do both to have a stronger CPU for when you upgrade to the 11XX or 12XX GPU's or take the 1070 and upgrade to something more powerful later (CPU) since you'll likely experience no issues with the 6100.

 

The better upgrade path for me would be both honestly but each has its merits.

I reccomend upraging your cpu to an i5 6600 and an rx 480. I think you will personally get better performance with that CPU

I think I'll go with the 1060 and new CPU because I'm only using a 1080p 60hz monitor and think a 1070 might be overkill. Thanks for the help!
