Aftermarket GPU Confusion

Okay so I've been trying to search for this but I don't know the right thing to ask. I have an msi r9 390x LE (lite edition). I purchased it for my first build last year in November. I went went with msi because I've heard good things about that brand and their gpu's but I have a question regarding aftermarket gpu's. what's the difference in all the brands and names? I know that there's differences in fan designs and cooling methods but when one brand, say EVGA, has 3 different versions of the same card, it gets confusing. I've seen the rog strix, the kingpin, ftw, classified, sc, and hybrid to name a few. How do you sort these out and what do you need to take into consideration when purchasing?

A few other things that matter:

  • Binning-This is when GPU manufacturers go through all the GPUs they get and find the specific ones that overclock or have the best power consumption and put them in specific GPUs that cost more (MSIs Lightning video cards are an example of video cards that have binned GPUs). This generally allows for slightly better overclocking and slightly lower power consumption, thought the difference is generally pretty small.
  • Power delivery-power phases basically separate the power delivery to the GPU into different phases to deliver more consistent voltages and to reduce the amount of heat on each VRM. If you want a little more detail look here: http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/what-are-power-phases.169661/. Basically, it can help increase your overclocking potential by a small amount.

That's all I can think of!

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Okay, I guess I'll just have to research more about the different versions.
