Difference between Asus GTX 1080 Cards

Hi,

 

I am about to buy a GTX 1080 and I was aiming for an Asus Strix Card.

But there are 3 kind of Stirx Cards out there: The "Active", the "Advanced" and the "OC".

So I asked myself, is there any real difference between these three cards besides base- and boostclocks (and of course price).

Cooler and PCB look the same and I can't find any valid information about other differences.

Is the OC one cherrypicked or are they all the same?

OCed ones are cherry picked binned chips, that all the difference is.

I read reviews that said the ~cheap ones~ overclock as good as the "OC" models, while keeping low temps.

Except the cheap ones have not been tested at higher clocks while the OCed ones have, that's binning.

 

A lot of non OC cards will also have chips that failed to make it onto an OC edition.

they'll probably be a mix of untested and bad binned chips so its luck of the draw how high they'll clock.

So would you say it's worth the risk of buying a 'cheap' one, or should I wait for availability of the OC edition in here in Germany and deal with the higher price?
