so i am about to build a new pc with a 6700k which i believe has 20 pcie lanes, in the build will be a gtx 1080 that i believe uses 16 lanes then a samsung m.2 ssd that uses 4 lanes. total 20 lanes used. i also wanted a xonar essence stx sound card in the build. will the effect performance on any of the other components and if so how? please explain to me somebody :S thanks

The GPU lanes are dedicated from the CPU while the peripherals come from the chipset which has additional lanes. Even if you did add in more components the GPU would just step down to x8 speeds and would have a negligible impact on performance.

so i should still get the full performance from my gpu and still get the full speed from my m.2 ssd?

It only has 16 lanes not 20...

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...
