The budget is 700 for a friend.  OS is not needed and I am gonna do the build for him.  Right now he has a laptop with an AMD Turion II and he uses movie maker  He's debating on moving into Adobe if this computer can handle it.  Here is what I came up with: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1MbhS

My questions since I only use movie maker are:

Is 8GB of ram enough for now?

What programs need GPU strength?

For what he's doing is a GTX 650 enough?

Would you recommend an FX-6300 + HD 7850/650 TI Boost?

Thanks

Steph

8GB of RAM is not enough for Premiere Pro... AT ALL

He plans on sticking to Movie Maker for now, but I'll leave upgradable to 16Gb an option.  Would an FX-6300 + HD 7850/GTX 650 TI Boost be better for movie maker than an FX-8320 + HD 7770/GTX 650>

If he's actually doing work on this, I say grab another HDD and RAID1.

He shoots videos on his go pro on his bike, not enough money to raid 2 large storage drives

Definitely go with a stronger CPU rather than stronger GPU.

Okay thanks.  Would you say GTX 650 for CUDA or HD 7770?

8GB ram is enough--it's decent enough for non-heavy premiere.

OpenCL with a 7770 would be better. The 7770 is fine for premiere pro.

I'd recommend getting a 8320 if possible.

I would expect when you're building a rig specifically for video editing that you would be a bit beyond what you call non-heavy Premiere. (And honestly you don't have to do "heavy" Premiere work before you start getting problems with 8GB)

Yes. More ram if possible. Premiere loves ram.

8GB should do. More is preferred but not everyone has deep pockets and have to deal with lower budgets.

My suggestion for his build

I did a few changes to this, I upgraded to 16GB 1866 Ram since it's an APU so it runs faster, and I got liquid cooling so he can OC without overheating. If you don't need 16GB get 8GB then, but stick with 1866 or higher.
