CPU COMPATIBILITY WITH SLI

Hello I have a 6700k cpu  with a Asus Maximus viii formula as a motherboard and I wanted to sli my new gtx 1080 Asus strix but I noticed that my cpu has a max pci express lanes of 16, but the gtx 1080 sli needs more express lanes so if I sli will it affect my performance and is it worth it?

It will split it into 2x 8x. There is almost no performance difference going fom  16x to 8x

The 6700k will bottleneck both 1080s btw and in games that don't support it you'll only be using one 1080.
