So i bought a gtx 960 to replace my old gt640. only thing that i have as a problem is my psu.

When i first used the 960 in open World games like witcher 3, i had 1 minute freezes only in the game. the sound was fine.

I monitored the gpu using oc guru II and when the freezes occured, my power consumption dropped down from 70% to 20%.

I managed to fix it with the old reinstall the Windows trick.

but i am certain that my psu was or still is the problem.

Specs:

Cpu: Intel Core I5 4690K

Gpu: Gigabyte Geforce GTX 960 windforce 2 OC, running in oc mode in oc guru.

PSU: Codegen 450W (yes i know it is a bad psu but the original pc was not built by me).

Mobo: Asus B85M-e micro-atx

HDD: Western Digital 1TB caviar blue

Ram: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Hyper X Fury Blue (1x8GB)

PSU specs:

+3.3v  +5v  +12v1  +12v2  -12v  +5VSB

20A     30A   12A     14A    0,8A     2A

130W Max   (                   ) 9,6W    10W

                        450W

nice chart i know :P

so should i stick with this one for a short time or should i get a new one?

No Performance issues since Windows reinstall.

If you really think it's the PSU, then definitely get a new one. A bad PSU can brick your whole system.

The CPU is fine, I guess. If you can get a 1080/1070 it should be fine I guess.

EDIT:

Change the PSU.

That thing is a firebomb. Replace now. Check out the PSU whitelist in my signature as well as the Tier list.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Don't skimp on the PSU. While it breathes life into your computer, it can also singlehandedly brick everything. Get something like an EVGA 650 GQ. It's a little more expensive, but it's infinitely better.

EDIT: A bad PSU can also kill you. They can catch on fire and burn your house down. This isn't necessarily likely, but the point is that the PSU is the one potentially life-threatening component in your computer, so don't skimp on it.

i know that i sould not lowball a psu, but i can't really afford a top quality so, i went to outerVision psu calculator and they reccommend an EVGA 100-W1-0600-K2  also a few days earlier, it reccomended the 500W one.

this one is more affordable

What do you think?

I'd get the first one ( EVGA 500W 100-W1-0500-KR). From what I can tell, it's higher quality than the K2. Although it is lower wattage, you should be fine since it's only a single GPU system (and 960 doesn't use too much).
