Hello all,

My friend and I recently built a PC primarily for gaming, at a mid range price. Using an asrock extreme4 board with an AMD FX-9590, 16 gigs of ram, and a power color 8gb RX 480. The monitor, a Samsung display, is connected via HDMI (the monitor only has dvi  and hdmi ports, the gpu had display port and hdmi ports). The issue he's having is not really an emergency, but it just worries us a bit, when the machine powers on, everything seems to turn on, fans spin, the mouse lights up etc. However, nothing displays on the monitor, in order for it to display it requires holding down the power button until it turns off and then pressing power again. What could be going on?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

well, that'd be your first mistake :P

joking aside, which specific asrock extreme 4 mobo are you using?

(making sure you're not setting yourself up for a mobo fire)

beyond that, try checking all of the connections in the system (sata plugs, power cables, the gpu being slotted in correctly) to make sure it's not just an iffy connection.

Thanks everyone! When my friend gets home today after work he'll look into these solutions, including providing more detailed info. It's his new PC specifically. I actually recommended the asrock board as I have a positive experience with it from when I built my rig for music composition last year on the x99 platform, for the least expensive option it's definitely full of features, I'd hate for that to be the issue.

Hello everyone.  I'm sorry for waiting so long to reply.  I'm only just now getting a chance to try to fix this.  So, here are more specs and details of what's going on:

PC Specs:

CPU: AMD FX-9590 4.7 GHz 8-Core

Motherboard: ASRock 990FX Extreme6 ATX

Video Card: PowerColor Radeon RX 480 8GB

Case:  Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower Case

Issue: When I press the power, everything turns on as normal (lights on mouse, fans in the case, light on the mouse) EXCEPT the keyboard and monitor.  After I press the power for 5 seconds, wait less than a second, then repress the power button again, it boots up perfectly.  So, basically, I have to boot it twice every time.  Restarting it is no problem in booting.  It only the first time after I keep it off for a while.

The bios/uefi is up to date.  Everything seems secure on the inside (video card, wires, etc.).  I could be missing something simple, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
