Do you realisr that you will need an AMP as a DAC alone will not be able to drive headphones?

Yes. I just want better quality sound and the ability to switch between external speakers and headphones on the fly,

You could buy a Y Splitter with a Switch. Allows switching on the fly and should be available rather cheaply.

The Illusion that your Mobo Audio (hoe do you get sound to your Yeti) such Garbage is in most cases an exageration. Trust me. I thought that same. I got myself an ODAC. My onboard is trurly full of static and not loud enoguh for DT880s 600Ohm but I would still say that the DAC doesn't make that much of a difference. The Audio I have now I GREAT but it is not like Worlds better than what I get from my OnePlus 3. Nothing loud enough and no static anymore. In the end it is up to the music  if you don't have dangit good headphones I don't think this has any use. What the difference boils down to for me is that I am hear imperfections of badly recorded, low Bitrate, and other flaws in audio much more platantly. Music hasn't gotten much more annjoyable. It takes good quality music and mastering. In the end it enables me to more carefully chose what pleases me ear.

I hope this didn't feel like me fantasizing about some Audio stuff. I am not at home right now but I can give you some more info if you need some after some deliberate listening comparisons.

I have to agree. If you don't have any issues with your onboard audio, a dac/amp won't improve your sound quality by much, or at all.

If you are gaming and want virtual surround, and your onboard audio is realtek alc1150, try using this:

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=392085

Some onboard audio's drivers intentionally distort/cripple the chip (that's the case with my Gigabyte Z97x Gaming 5). These drivers will bypass those and deliver clean sound, as well as unlock certain things like Dolby features, which are included in the Realtek chip but are not activated, probably because many mobo manufacturers want to save 10 to 20 bucks to compete as most people won't need it.
