Hi,

I noticed that my HDD is working slowly. I checked Task Manager and it shows that HDD usage is 100%.

Also, I'm using SSD (Windows is stored on it) and its usage is about 5%.

I google it, but all I found is that this could be problem bcs of Microsofts updates. But my Windows is on SSD so they don't work.

I tried to defrag my HDD but when I click analyze it's showing only "Analyzing" and it does not go to defrag process.

Does anyone know to solve this?

P.S. I tried to take off HDD, and put it back and it did not help.

Have you tried removing the HDD?

When you installed windows on the SSD were all the other drives unplugged?

What happens when you restart your PC?

Active time 100% does not mean it's using 100% of its read/write capabilities. It just means it's powered on, mounted and ready to go 100% of the time. As you can see in task manager it's doing 100KB per second, which is nothing. Read and write some large files to the drive, keep an eye on the speeds and see what happens. If it underperforms maybe try a different SATA cable or different port on your motherboard.

I tried to remove HDD, and SSD using is OK. I put HDD back and have same problem.

I'm using Windows 10 for 6 months and I did not have this problem before. I have it for a few days.

When I restart it or shut down same problem.

I noticed this problem bcs of slow speed of HDD. When I want to search something on it it take some time (few sec) to open folder. It say "Working on it".

Run crystaldiskinfo and see what it says about your HDD.

Sounds to me like it needs to be replaced.

Odd. What you can do is run a program that can check the drive's status. Enderman beat me to it, crystaldiskinfo will tell you if it's dying.

I tired that too. I bought this HDD in september I hope it does not need to be replaced. :)

Hm looks fine.

Have you tried deleting the entire partition in disk management and reformatting it?

I'd open the case, plug in a new/other SATA data cable into a different port on the motherboard and hook the disk up that way.

Otherwise the file structure may be screwed.

Have you tried booting into a Linux Distro from USB to check the usage of the disk? Because that can isolate whether it is just Windows.
