I want to move away from console gaming and try pc gaming and I heard that you can build a console killer for around the same price as a console. Can anyone do that for me? Since its a "gaming pc" I want it to be able to do some office stuff also and browse the web smoothly with multiple tabs.

In order to do this you have to buy used parts, or get really REALLY good deals. Also, most of these don't include a monitor, mouse and keyboard. If you're still willing to do that, I can look for parts but this is almost entirely dependent on the used market in your area.

well i can confidantly say that i have done that(or rather will have once my 660s arive and i get a new PSU..) but i have used used parts for my build and that might not be what you want to do but if you go with used if you are in the US its usiually not a problem and i can also say that for that budget you can get a used I5 and a used Titan here in Sweden if you know were to look and you look at the right time ;) anyway i do not have the skills to do this for you so let me summon the price/preformance god for you :) @TheRandomness please help this man enter the glorious PCMR :P

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

There isn't really any way to build a "console killer" if you're buying new components. the OS alone is going to set you back ~75-100 bucks (assuming you're going to run windows). so really you have to try to build a system 250-275. You could only really do that if you acquire used components and very shrewd negotiations.

The most powerful gaming machine you can buy new for 350-400 bucks is a console. that's what they're there for.

Okay... this is going to be tricky. Really this is about finding the deals, which is pretty hard.

$55 CPU: Xeon X5650 (or better X5660, X5670...)

$100 Mobo: Socket LGA 1366

$25 Ram: 8 GB of DDR3

$20 HDD: Cheapest

$100 GPU: R9 280X

$40 PSU: EVGA 450B

$25 Case: Bitfenix Nova

Final Price: $365

I bet these prices won't be here long... And if I were you, I wouldn't build this computer. I'd definitely wait until I had a higher budget
