Well I have a 6870 right now and the 1gb of Vram is really limiting me in games. Bf4 beta is unplayable with it as well. So I was looking at video cards and was going to pull the trigger on  7970 for around 310$ but found a 7990 for 569$ which is a great deal for one card with a ton of horsepower. I really want something that will last me 3-4 years unlike my 6870 that only lasted a year and a half.

SO im guessing im just looking for confirmation on this purchase because it is a lot of $$ to invest in a GPU IMO.

Thanks guys

Depends on whether you have a second pcie 3.0 slot. If you have a mini-itx system, go with the 7990. If not then go with the 7970. My advice would be to wait for a bit and get a Hawaii card in the same budget.

What does an extra PCIe slot have to do with anything?

Wow fast responses here. haha.

Well from what I understand the 7990 will be probably just as good as the 290x or pretty damn close right?

Was also going to wait for the r9 series to see if the price drops even more on it. because right now its just as fast as a titan on most games.

Okay, now this shit really isn't making sense. If he'd Crossfire, he'd just grab the 7990.

crossfire(7990 has native crossfire for dual gpus) is a total pain the butt, i ask myself everyday why i still run crossfire after having lots of trouble with drivers since i bought my second graphics card .If you can wait wait for new gpu line up even if you cant afford it current gen gfx cards will be going super cheap

Again wont the 7990 be pretty damn close to it in performance. And thank you :)

It may be, but you will get less heat, less power consumption(you need lower Wattage PSU) and you wont get those weird issues with Crossfire like framerating and optimisation issues. Many games Beta or released games don't work properly on Crossfire off the bat, they need some updates. Also it leaves room for future upgradability.

The 7990 seems like a great price and performance card. It will be faster than the rumored performance of the r9 290x and is priced lower.

But there can be scaling issues, stuttering, higher heat, and higher power consumption. You could also wait for the new GPU to see if the 7990 drops in price even more.

Looks like I mis-worded it. As an example, If he did have a mini-itx board, it would make sense to go for the stonger GPU as Crossfire would not be an option. However, If he did have more slots, a 7970 would be cheaper and last him a few years.

wow thanks guys for all the responses. Im not to worried about power consumption and heat, I have a rvo2 case which is killer at air cooling and getting that hot air out, so im guessing the 7990 would be fine. So most people are saying wait for the r9 series to see the price drop?

Also arent the stuttering issues mostly fixed in most modern games?? I will mostly be playing bf4.

BF4 is still in beta--be patient. Wait for the new AMD cards to come out.

I know its in beta. Im not in a rush at all just trying to figure out what would be the best because I think the r9 290x will be out of my budget.

Sorry im new here. haha. There was just way too many people to quote.

You could just tag them. If you don't say who you're talking to, nobody will know.

This is my plan. If the 7990 is close to the r9 290x and cheaper ill just get the 7990. Which im sure it will be close to it or better.

wuuuuutttttt. but the 290x is likely much better than the 7990. the 290x is going to be $600 i doubt ull get a 7990 for a considerable lless amount to make it worth it.

also if the rumours are true. it will be beter than the titan which imo i would take over the 7990
