I bought half life today on steam for a few euros because I heard the series was awesome. But the game is like...ancient! Are there any graphical mods that can make the game look prettier(more modern)?

If you talking about the first half-life, then you can download Black Mesa.

It is the half-life 1 gameplay/story on the half-life 2 source engine so it looks a lot nicer, and Black Mesa is free!

Pirates, Viking, and Knights 2 is very good, amazing community on that mod.

I'm looking for the half life experience for I've never played it but heard so much about it. And now that Half life 3 is coming out soon...

 

Half Life one is old by now but still playable, Black Mesa isn't fully done yet since it doesn't include Xen, so you won't get the 'full' experience from there. Half Life 2 and its episodes are epic in my opinion, even though some bits may seem slow for some people, I loved those for the fact that you really feel like Gordon Freeman, somehow :) If you do play half life 2, I recommend playing it first without graphical mods or with graphical mods that just change lightning etc. and not the characters.

Cry Of Fear is scary as hell! Cant remember if it's for Half Life 1 or 2 though.

 

Cry of fear is not a mod, it is a stand-alone game based on the source engine.

You can download it for free on steam, and probably Desura, can't be bothered to search.
