Is it my cpu or gpu

HI,

I recently just bought a new pc that I bought believing that I would be able to run games effortlessly. Unfortunately this is not the case, In most games I get fps drops all the time. 

 

The games with  issues 

Black ops 3 

GTA 5

SHADOW OF MORDOR 

 

The reason why this seems really usual because; A) my pc meet the recommended requirements b) My cpu temp is at 25 - 31 ( never goes over)  full load  .

 

My specs

i5 4460

GTX 970

16gb ram

1tb hdd

h55 cooler (closed loop) 

700 w (Aerocool psu ) Was cheap tho

corsair spec 01 

 

What I have tried to resolve this problem

 

DDU ( Uninstall and re-install drivers)

Clean install of windows 8 times ( not windows 8) I've actually tried 8 times  

registry scan

re-applied thermal paste 

rebuilt my pc

updated bios

de frag drives

update drivers

 

Any help shall be noted and appreciated.

Most likely this:

Black ops 3 (CPU) Not sure how to fix...

GTA 5 (CPU) Can be fixed by selectively reduce some settings, shadows and foliage should help...

SHADOW OF MORDOR (GPU) Reduce graphics anything should do, maybe try to set it to 900p?

Your CPU is fairly good, that probably isn't your problem. The problem can be that the GTX 970 only uses 3.5GB at full speed and the other 0.5GB is slower.

Okay thank you everyone for the fast reply, what a great community. But It I forgot to mention my cpu temps goes up to 75 on full load. It is a reference card design

Might be, but it expands options.

GPU temps you mean?

 

What fps are you getting in bf3? if it's 100+ and then dropping under 100, shouldn't really make a difference, just run Vsync to avoid the stuttering that'll occur at high fps on i5's.  GTA V you need to lower the settings a little bit. Don't even bother with the advanced settings with the 970.  Run ultra everything else, but turn long shadows and all the advanced options off. Same with Mordor.

Over a 4460? yes especially CPU limited games, extra threads make a difference. Are you on a Z97 board?

Hello, thank you for the help. I get about 120 fps with things on high on bo3, with aa lowered to fxaa and subsurface scattering off. But i drops to 50 every like 5 seconds

what settings are you trying to run on? I get 60+ fps on high in those games with a 4690k and a GTX 960 with no frame drops at all

Bro, you are so lucky. Im running settings at medium to reduce fps drops but it drops like a fire mixtape. Really bad every 5 seconds.

he shouldnt need to upgrade his cpu. id suggest he try running with v sync on and seeing how that goes

That stutter is because the cpu can't keep up with the gpu framerate, and the frame time is dropping to +50ms instead of +20 ms which is preferred. It's a common problem with i5's at high refresh rates.  Turn on vsync an you should get a smooth 60fps at all times.   An i7 will alleviate the problem, but if you don't have a 144hz monitor it's kind of a waste in my opinion.  The other games are gpu limited, imo.
