How much do you care about your data and what kind of environment are they going to be in?

If we're talking about a 24/7 mission critical server, definitely not.

If it's just for your steam library, will probably be fine.

so wrong you should go sit in a corner until you realise what you did.

on topic: refurb drives arent something you'd use on a high workload machine, or for important data storage (unless if you want to have several backups of the data, then it's less of a risk.)

So the data isn't that important, so I'd say go for it.

Worst case the drives fail and you have to re-download your steam library :)

because seagate had some issues with one recent series of drives, seemingly the 3TB barracudas showed problematic.

but hobestly, there's only 3 manufacturers of hard drives, it's more based on luck than it is on buying the "highest quality" hard drive.

@AirtightChunk39 trust me go for it, worst case scenario the drive dies (which if that ever happens it will probobly happen in like years) and also the multiple drives from different companies will cause no issues

one can actually argue it's safer to get a refurb, because they have survived the initial "burst" of drives that die in the first year, and they passed a thourough wipe flawlessly.

@manikyath thats probobly true, i dont think the drive is going to die, but even if it dies its not that bad of a loss because its a cheaper drive

@airtightchunk39 well drives die kinda randomly if there in a pc sitting still but it is more likely to happen ones the pc ages, its kinda like humans and catching diseases

the older it gets the more likely it is to die, for example an 8 year drive will probobly die soon but it could live another 5-10 plus years if your very very lucky

dude the drive is probobly about a year old, expect at least 5 more years before the drive dies, and by that time you will probobly have enouph money to buy a brand new drive (ssds will probobly be much cheaper by then so it will probobly be an ssd)
