Still not sure what to get. RX 480 or 1060.

Yoo Song Won

I'm either gonna get a Sapphire Radeon RX 480 Nitro or an MSI Gaming X Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 but don't know what to get.

I've seen that the 1060 is more powerful than the RX 480 but people have been telling me that the RX 480 will be supported for longer and will do better in DX12 and the Crossfire option is worth getting it over the 1060.

So, which one should I get? I won't be upgrading for a very long time after I get the 1060 or RX 480.

Thanks.

I'd go for the 1060, though if you want to run an sli or crossfire setup in the future, I'd suggest going with the 480s as the 1060s don't support SLI.

You could wait a few weeks to see if AMD releases the rx490 and if it'll be any good or not.

If your not going to upgrade or get a second 480 id prolly go with the 1060 for now, slightly better performance is always nice. Either card would be fine.

The Nitro 480 matches or beats the 1060 due to the much higher clockspeed possible so I'd get that if it's cheaper

Do you plan to overclock and what are the prices in your region?

Yes, and the prices don't matter as my parents are buying any card around £300 or less for me...

Well, depending on what you get on the 1060 it might be the same or 5% faster than the 480 Nitro from Sapphire. Though under DX12/Vulkan the 480 is faster

I agree. The possibility to crossfire might actually be a good argument for the 480 although if the time comes you might be better of just selling the 480 and buying something bigger. So personally I think I would go with the 480 but honestly you be fine with either. Maybe just choose the cheaper one I'm sure your parents won't mind.

There's not much between them, and the 480 has a greater longevity.
