I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit but with only 5 days left, would getting Windows 10 Pro be worth it?

I am a very heavy power user and am happy with all the mods and what not I have done to 7. Also if anybody knows, when is Microsoft going to stop updating Windows 7?

I also do quite a bit of gaming (usually racing,) Photoshop, Video Editing, etc... The newest games I have are Drift Streets Japan, and BeamNG. Would there be any compatibility issues or anything?

I don't know what else to say about the topic, but other than that Thanks in advance for replying if I don't get back to you soon.

Windows 7 loses long term support in January 2020 (it's already lost priority support now).

There shouldn't be any compatibility issues. I would at least install W10 on a different partition in order to take advantage of your free upgrade so you can use it later. I'm not sure if there are any features in W7 Ultimate that aren't present in W10 Pro that you need. If you don't need any of the missing features, then I would upgrade to W10 pro.

I use Windows 10 Pro and 7 Ultimate, and until I mod Windows 10 more, I still prefer Windows 7. But, even so, I still got the Windows 10 free upgrade, for as-of-yet unforseen future posterity. Right now, Windows 7 is still a very viable OS, and the only restrictions are the ones Microsoft has artificially put into place (like DX 12 not being on Win 7) to try to coerce Windows 7 users to upgrade to Windows 10.

If you can, I recommend swapping in another storage device, and installing Windows 7 on it, then performing the free upgrade, so that your Windows 7 license will become permanently both a Windows 7 and a Windows 10 license. Then just place your original storage back in, and continue using Windows 7 for as long as you see fit.

Also, you could make a new partition on your existing drive, and install Windows 7 on it, and then upgrade that partition to Windows 10. Then just remove the partition afterwards, or keep it to dual boot Windows 7 and 10, which is what I'm doing.

Windows 7 will continue to be supported for another 4 years, and even after that, it's not going to be a big problem. Win 7 has been solid since its release. And there are people still running XP.

Alright thanks! Where would I get the product key, would it just tell it to me after I download it?

You'd have to perform the upgrade to Windows 10 to have your Windows 7 license become registered as also being a Windows 10 license. You don't get a separate key for Windows 10 when you do the free upgrade.

Alright, I saw your first post. So if I already have two hard drives, could install it to second one without getting rid of all my stuff on it?

If you already have content on your 2nd HDD, the one that you'd perform the upgrade with, then it's kinda unknown what could happen to it when you upgrade to Windows 10. The upgrade process is not always predictable. It'd be best if you had a drive without other things on it, and if if you disconnect all other drives to perform the upgrade (although files on a drive that isn't the one being upgraded should be safe).

Sorry for the late reply, I partitioned my main drive and have 7 on one half and 10 on the other. My question now is, is there anyway they can both read the same program files? Without having to open one from another?

The same c:\Program Files? No. But if you mean the same application and game folders, I have it set up that way with my Win 7 / 10 dual boot system. All my applications and games are on D:\, and with Steam, it will auto find the games in both OSes once I set the Steam games directory to the place on D:\ they're all installed. Also, with applications, sometimes I needed to reinstall the application in each OS, so that each OS had the registry files needed for the application. But I'd reinstall it to the same place on D:\ for both OSes, so that the instance of the application in each OS launches from the same files, and I don't have two copies of the application installed.
