Noisy PSU.

Go to solution Solved by MaxBunny,

You shouldn't have gone with Thermaltake. Their peripherals/cases can be fine but their PSUs are crap. Next time pick yourself up an EVGA or something.

If it's in warranty then send it back as defective. If that doesn't work and you don't want to buy a new one then you can buy a used one to replace it.

After using the PC for 5-10 minutes the power supply gets louder. I have turned off each of the fans 1 by 1 inside the case testing which one it is and I have discovered that it is definitely the PSU. I have steady airflow going from the front of the case and back. (140mm) I put the PSU facing up and put it down. No difference in fan speed with it. Anything I can do? I feel like just oiling/lubing the fan would either be temporary or just a waste of time. Any ideas? (Besides a new PSU please lol)

I will be doing a large upgrade later this year.

Right now:

AMD 4300 @ 3.8

GTX 750ti

8GB RAM

MSI 760gm-p34

500GB HDD & 2TB HDD

Fractal Define R4

600w Thermaltake PSU (As you know)

Later this year:

Zen/i5 6500

GTX 1060/RX 480

8GB RAM

Mobo to support CPU

120gb SSD & 2TB HDD

Fractal Define R4

(Some sort of PSU that can run it all)

Budget for upgrading is not known.

Alrighty, well if quiet is a concern then an EVGA 550G2 should do nicely as well as a Seasonic G-series of 650W (for a more acceptably quiet fan curve).

Honestly it isnt that bad, but if I see a good deal on either one of those with a bit of extra cash I will consider. Thanks!
