I was looking to get a backpack such as this...(excuse the watermarked image..)

AS1151.jpg

...to carry a 17.3inch laptop around in, as the corners are squarer than other backpacks and I like the styling. I was just looking for opinions on how the interior of the bag could be best adapted to provide some padding to protect the laptop inside from knocks etc.I did think about re purposing some polystyrene, but I think that would crumble and get everywhere.. Ideally it would involve a custom-cut foam insert that the laptop would fit into, but where do you get big lumps of foam?

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks :)

Get one with a padded laptop pocket, or a pouch for the laptop.

admittedly a shallower bag would be better.. i might have to go find a milsurp store or something and find out if its excessively large in person.

If you can splash the cash, have a look at the crumpler products www.crumpler.com.au I use a side bag every day and its awesome but they do all kinds of bags. They are a little pricy but have a lifetime guarantee and are made SUPER well...

I can't recommend them enough.

Though I'd like to go Everki or Crumpler, I can't really stretch that far towards the price premium that comes alongside the premium quality :(

If you'll carry more stuff in the backpack like books or notepads then one with a pouch would do the job perfectly as the books would completely absorb the shock instead of the laptop.

Have found Alienware's "Vindicator" for 75 GBP (~$120, though only priced at $90 on Alienware US...) which had a multi-compartment design that cushions the laptop with the other contents.

Thanks all :D
