- Co-op

- Open World

- Leveling System

- Free, or Initially Free

Thank You!!

Side Note: If there is a really good Mmorpg that you know that costs money, feel free to put it in as well.

Elder Scrolls Online, Star Wars: The Old Republic are 2 that initially come to mind that are free and provide the experience you describe.

Guild Wars 2, endgames a bit shit but the levelling and explorations quite good and diffrent from the usual Kill or Collect X for X etc. I would have recommended a WoW Private server but thats out the window now. I'd try the FF MMO, I got it through Humble Bundle but have yet to play it.

WoW is still the gold standard, but it is comparatively awful in it's current state to years past. Unfortunately, the MMORPG isn't the thriving genre it once was, so your options are pretty limited. Yes, there are hundreds of free to play MMOs out there, but you said "good", so that immediately rules out 95% of what's out there. The reality is publishers just aren't getting behind MMOs like they once were in the heyday of EQ and WoW. Now, most MMOs are cookie cutter WoW clones with egregious free to play business models that would scare away most prospective players.

If you don't want to play WoW, Guild Wars 2 is a great choice. In a lot of ways it's better than WoW is now, though WoW's upcoming Legion expansion could change things. The best thing about GW2 is there is no subscription fee, but it also isn't F2P. It's buy to play, which is undoubtedly the most reasonable and consumer friendly monetary strategy for a game like this. I believe it's also on sale for 50% off currently, and you get a free character boost to what I assume is current max level.

Beyond WoW and GW2, Star Wars the Old Republic is...fine. If you're a big SW fan and you don't mind paying a subscription to get by their horrible F2P restrictions I think there is fun to be had with this one, though your mileage may vary. Final Fantasy XIV is a pretty strong choice as well, but it is subscription based and will cost you a decent amount to get up and running, though there is a 30 day free trial and I suggest you give it a try because it's not a game for everyone. Rounding out what I consider the only MMOs worth looking at, WildStar recently went free to play, which could be good or could be bad, I honestly haven't played it since launch. It's very much like WoW in terms of play style, but with the existence of WoW I'm really not sure the market needs or wants WildStar. Once again, give it a go for free and see if it might be something you want to subscribe too and play for extended periods of time.

My one final thought: Be prepared to pay no matter what MMO you choose. If anything, WoW is the most honest by forcing a subscription. Many other MMOs offer free to play models but you won't be accomplishing much until you pony up some cash. If you become seriously invested in any one of these games, a subscription will be all but required no matter which one you play, so don't let the initial idea of free to play factor in to your decision too heavily.

Elder scrolls online is not free though, is it?

Mystery is the source of all true science.

To play it is. Has been for over a year now. Only requirement is to pay for a copy of the game.
